Office Policies

Appointments
We offer carefully planned appointment times that are mutually convenient. Our staff will be pleased to assist you in any way possible and all efforts will be made to accommodate your schedule. We try hard to maintain our schedule so you will not have to wait when you arrive for your appointment. We will complete your treatment as soon as possible. We ask that you arrive on time.

If you are unable to keep an appointment, we ask that you kindly provide us with at least 48 hours notice. This courtesy, on your part, will make it possible to give your appointment to another patient. Failing to notify this office 48 hours prior to missing your appointment will result in a charge for the missed appointment.

Emergencies
For emergencies during our off hours, please call our emergency cell phone at (201) 390-5852 and Dr. Picone will contact you as soon as possible.

Telephone Calls
All patients and friends are encouraged to call with any questions concerning dental problems. However, it would be most unfair to our patients in the chair, were the doctors to leave to answer every telephone call. Our office staff is well qualified to answer most questions. If the call requires the doctor to speak with you, he will return your call at the earliest opportunity.

Our answering machine is on whenever the office is closed, or if a staff meeting is being conducted. At all other times your call will be answered quickly and courteously by our staff. Our answering machine is an important information tool. After the beep please announce your name, number, date, and time of call before giving us your message. When canceling your appointment please include the day, date, and time scheduled. Please note that all appointments that cannot be kept must be canceled 48 hours before your scheduled time to avoid a broken appointment charge. This charge is determined by the length of your appointment, and circumstances. If you are in pain or emergency treatment is required, please dial the number given in the message. THIS NUMBER IS FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY! If the office is closed for any length of time (vacation, etc), the numbers of covering doctors will be given.

Recall Visits Save Money
We hope you will share in our belief that regular preventive dental health care is a sound and money saving investment. While responsibility for returning for this treatment rests primarily with you, we will provide the service of sending you a written reminder when it is your time to return. We check the work that we have done, plus any previous work, as well as keep a close eye peeled for problems. We feel this regular program helps you treat problems when they are easiest to rectify with greatly reduced cost. Please let us know of any change in:

  1. address
  2. phone
  3. health
  4. any medication you are taking
  5. marital status
  6. employment
  7. insurance coverage

Parents with Children
We accept patients of all ages including children. Generally a child should be ready for their first appointment at age 3. When calling for an appointment, please let us know if this is the child’s first experience with the dentist, or if they had an unpleasant prior experience. We will do our best to provide a positive experience.

For parents who are undergoing treatment and must bring their children, we suggest if your child is very young to bring a stroller or carriage. This way the child cannot wander around the office unattended. Our staff will not be responsible for children allowed to wander around. For our older children, we provide a children’s corner with activity books, puzzles, and educational books.

We encourage parents to ask questions and be involved in their children’s treatment, so we can make every effort to see that your child’s dental experience is as positive as possible.

Dentistry for the Homebound
In past years Dr. Picone has been visiting the homebound who are unable to leave their homes due to illness, injury or any prolonged recuperation. There are limited services that can be rendered with the equipment available, such as denture adjustments, relines, repairs, certain permanent and temporary fillings, impressions of assorted prosthesis, among others. If you or someone you know is interested in this service please call the office and speak to the receptionist. Have the following items at hand: name and address of patient, name of treating physician(s), medications patient is taking, birth date, nature of problem, and any other information you know about the patient’s medical history. Our office may need to call the patient’s doctor for an OK to work on them at this time. We also need to know the patient’s ability to move around. Are they bedridden, in a wheel chair, barely walking?

Payment is due at the time of service by check or cash. Let us know if you have insurance. We will submit the necessary forms for payment on your behalf. Please note that some work may require subsequent office visits when patient is well enough to come to our facility.
